Climate-friendly headquarters
For the new building of the FUNK headquarters in Kinsau, Bavaria, we teamed up with craftsmen from the region and relied on natural materials. Our neighbour supplies us with district heating, which he in turn generates with wood from the nearby forests. A solar system on the roof makes the headquarters self-sufficient and feeds surplus energy into the grid.
Natural talent
Our weakness for natural materials is no longer a secret. We'll tell you one more thing right away: the glasses in the Sashee Schuster "Colours of Nature" collection even contain real, collected and dried natural materials. For example, Sashee processes blossoms, leaves, spices or even feathers into unique frames. Beautiful like the colours of nature.
Female empowerment
As a family-friendly and modern company, it is a matter of course for us that every employee has an important place, regardless of gender. Actually, this should be nothing special nowadays. Nevertheless, we would like to mention that more than 60% of our FUNK team is made up of women. Together we are a colourful, creative and successful mixture.
Repair instead of throwing away
Our ambition is to make glasses of the highest quality for you that will ideally accompany you for a lifetime and give you pleasure in everyday life. So if a temple is loose or another repair is due, we'll take care of it in our workshop or even directly in our optical stores. By the way, with Joko we have the best "eyewear extreme tester" ever on board. He occasionally presents us with great challenges through his courageous competitions, but we always give our best. Because what we like best is to put a stop to the throwaway society!
In-house design and development
In-house Design Team
Unter der Leitung des Gründers und Designers Dieter Funk sowie der Laminier-Expertin Sashee Schuster gewährleistet unser Team eine kontinuierliche Innovationskraft. With decades of experience and specialisation, they are able to effectively integrate sustainable design principles into every aspect of our products.
32 years of concentrated experience in eyewear design
Dieter Funk brings his extensive experience and in-depth knowledge to the design of every pair of glasses. Sashee Schuster, who specialises in acetate lamination technology, complements this expertise with her unique knowledge of materials and their processing. Together, they form the creative heart of the company.
This combination of experience-based knowledge, creative talent and a strong focus on sustainability enables FUNK to constantly set new standards in eyewear design and offer products that lead the way in both quality and responsibility.
Slow Design
At FUNK, we practise slow design, which is deeply rooted in our philosophy of quality and sustainability.
Careful material selection
Our materials are selected according to strict criteria that take into account aesthetics as well as environmental compatibility and durability. By prioritising the use of recycled acetate and bio-based plastics, we reduce our ecological footprint and ensure that every frame is beautiful and environmentally friendly.
Master craftsmanship
Each of our frames is made using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. This method not only ensures superior quality, but also gives each piece a unique touch that is often lost in mass production.
Timeless design
We design eyewear that consciously turns its back on the ‘fast fashion’ mentality. Our models are characterised by timeless designs that aim to defy fashion trends and be worn for many years. In this way, we promote longevity and sustainability and oppose the fast-moving throwaway culture.
CO2 emissions
hort distances
By bringing raw material production, manufacturing, sales and warehousing together under one roof, we minimise transport routes and the associated CO2 emissions. This physical proximity also increases the efficiency of our production processes.
Wood chip plant
We benefit from a wood chip plant that is operated by a neighbouring company and to which we are connected in winter. The neighbour has its own forest from which the woodchippings are obtained. These are produced automatically and annually through the necessary maintenance of this forest, which ensures a sustainable and environmentally friendly use of resources.
Photovoltaic system
A photovoltaic system is installed on the roof of our hall, which not only covers our entire electricity requirements, but also produces more energy than we consume ourselves. This surplus of green energy is fed into the grid, further strengthening our contribution to a sustainable energy supply.
Own neighbouring forest plot
ur neighbouring woodland serves to bind CO2 and provides a habitat for local flora and fauna. The active maintenance of this forest is an essential part of our efforts to promote biodiversity and ecological sustainability.
Heat recovery
In the process of manufacturing our acetate raw material, we utilise heat recovery systems that are used to cool our facilities in summer and heat them in winter. This efficient use of energy contributes significantly to reducing our energy consumption and lowering our operating costs.
Own FUNK Optik stores
Our own FUNK Optik Stores play a central role. They are not just points of sale, but also serve as workshops where glasses are made to individual measurements and requirements.
Here are some key aspects that make our stores special:
Customised glasses
All employees in the FUNK Optik stores are not only trained opticians, but also spectacle makers specially trained by us. This enables customised glasses to be made directly on site, adapted to the individual needs and preferences of the customer.
High quality service
Our stores offer various services that go beyond the usual standard. These include the polishing of acetate spectacles, which considerably extends their lifespan and makes them look like new again.
Repair and maintenance
In the stores, the screws on the temples can be tightened or, in the case of riveted glasses, the rivets can be replaced or riveted. These measures help to maintain the functionality and aesthetics of the glasses over a long period of time.
Personalised customer service
Der direkte Kontakt unseren Kunden ermöglicht ein tieferes Verständnis für deren Bedürfnisse und Wünsche. Direct contact with our customers enables us to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and wishes. Our customers appreciate the personal service and expertise offered in our FUNK Optik Stores.

In-house acetate production
Production of acetate in-house
The in-house production allows complete control over the quality and sustainability of the process.
Production of acetate sheets from granulates and films
The use of acetate granulates and films allows standardised sheets to be produced that are suitable for series production.
Innovative acetate lamination by the designer Sashee Schuster
This refined technique enables the production of unique acetate sheets in which natural materials such as flowers, seeds, feathers, silk and spices are embedded. After weeks of storage, the result is unique sheets for spectacles that are unrivalled anywhere in the world. These residual materials from this specialised manufacturing process can also be recycled. An adapted technique is used to avoid damaging the natural materials in the acetate.
Use of vintage acetate
We utilise existing acetate resources and thus reduce the need for new raw materials.
Integrated recycling process for the production of new acetate sheets
Includes the collection, cleaning, shredding and reprocessing of acetate residues.
Umwandlung von Produktionsabfällen in wiederverwendbare Rohmaterialien
Minimises waste and maximises efficiency by feeding it back into the production process.
Contributing to the circular economy and reducing environmental impact
The ecological footprint of production is reduced through effective recycling and the reuse of materials.
Own distribution
FUNK's own sales organisation is crucial to guaranteeing exclusivity and the highest quality. Our products are distributed exclusively by carefully selected opticians who fully meet our standards.
Exclusivity through selective partnerships
We distribute our eyewear exclusively through a hand-picked selection of specialised optical shops. These partnerships ensure that our collections are only offered in environments that meet our high expectations for quality and customer service. This safeguards the exclusivity of our brands and ensures that every customer interaction remains true to our principles.
No online sale
We are convinced that the purchase of glasses requires personal advice and precise optical measurements, which can only be achieved through direct contact with specialised staff. This is why we deliberately refrain from selling our products online. This philosophy emphasises our commitment to high-quality advice and fitting that is optimally tailored to the individual needs of each customer.
Our FUNK Optik Stores
Our own Stores serve as a showcase for the full variety of our products in an environment that perfectly reflects our brand values. In addition, our stores offer specialised services such as customised adjustments and repairs, which significantly improve the durability and comfort of our eyewear. These services are also offered by our partner opticians who stock our brands, ensuring full availability of our expertise.
Control of the distribution chain
By distributing exclusively through selected opticians, we retain complete control over the brand image, product presentation and customer experience. This controlled distribution strategy is essential to maintain the exclusivity of our brand and ensure consistently high customer satisfaction.
In-house Recycling
